Supporting Every Learner: How Breanna Davis & Kelly Smith Help Students Thrive at Right At School

At Right At School, we believe every child deserves to feel successful, included, and understood.

At Right At School, we believe every child deserves to feel successful, included, and understood. In our work on the Student Support and Learning and Development teams, we see firsthand how much students can grow when they have the right tools, the right guidance, and adults who truly know them.

We support programs across the country, and no matter where we go, our goal is the same. We want every student to participate fully and learn in ways that work for them. That is why our support model is grounded in universal design. When we build strategies that help one child, those same strategies often help the entire classroom. A calming routine that helps a student transition more smoothly also brings focus to the whole group. A visual schedule created for one learner can become a tool that benefits everyone.

Our work includes real time coaching and problem solving with educators. We observe classrooms, partner with program managers, and model activities side by side with staff. When a team is facing a challenge, we are there to help them make small adjustments that lead to meaningful change. Sometimes it is as simple as adding a movement break between activities. Other times it involves creating a short intervention plan based on a student’s interests, communication style, or sensory needs.

At the heart of our work is relationship building. Our educators learn students’ interests, celebrate their strengths, and create spaces where they feel like they belong.

One moment that stays with us happened during a recent school visit. A young student was having difficulty with transitions and often felt overwhelmed moving from one activity to another. By working with the educator, we built simple transition routines that tied movement to calming. We added modified yoga poses during each shift in the schedule. Within a short time, the entire class began participating. What started as a support for one student became a joyful, shared routine that helped everyone settle and refocus.

Tools matter too. Our teams create visual supports, social stories, sensory materials, and alternative communication tools that educators can use right away. These resources help students express their needs, navigate choices, and connect with confidence.

At the heart of our work is relationship building. We watch educators learn students’ interests, celebrate their strengths, and create spaces where they feel like they belong. We step in with guidance, but the real magic happens when students feel seen and supported by the people who greet them every afternoon.

Every child deserves the chance to thrive after school. Our job is to make sure the environment, the curriculum, and the support systems make that possible for every learner, every day.

Every child deserves the chance to thrive after school.
